Elm Class
Autumn 1
Science - Evolution and Inheritance
As part of our science unit of work this half term, Elm class explored fossils, how they are formed, how they are excavated and what they can tell us about evolution. Pupils put their excavation skills to the test initially, by carefully extracting chocolate chips from cookies. Then, after making their own trace fossils using clay, shells and plaster of Paris, pupils used their skills to excavate their own fossil!
Elm class's first focus text for this year is set in Egypt, on the edge of the Sahara Desert. The Day of Ahmed's Secret, by Florence Parry Heide & Judith Heide Gilliand, sees the young Ahmed going about his daily work, whilst carrying an exciting and potentially life-changing secret...
Trucks and donkeys, cars and camels, carts and buses... the bustling streets of Cairo are exciting, but today Ahmed will share his secret, which is even more exciting.
