In Guided Reading this half term, Elm class will be reading Holes by Louis Sachar.

STANLEY YELNATS HAS BAD LUCK

When Stanley's bad luck unfairly lands him in the juvenile detention centre Camp Green Lake (a very weird place that isn;t green and doesn;t have a ake), he and his campmates Zero, X-Ray, Armpit, Squid, MAgnet and Zigzag are forced to dig holes in order to build character...

Writing

In writing, we will use a beautifully illustrated picture book set in Egypt, on the edge of the Sahara Desert, as out stimulus. 

The Day of Ahmed's Secret, by Florence Parry Heide & Judith Heide Gilliand, sees the young Ahmed going about his daily work, whilst carrying an exciting and potentially life-changing secret...

Trucks and donkeys, cars and camels, carts and buses... the bustling streets of Cairo are exciting, but today Ahmed will share his secret, which is even more exciting.
