English Intervention
English is broken down into three areas, reading, writing and speaking and listening. Children can experience a barrier in a single area or multiple areas. At NJK we have high aspirations for all our children. Our pupils, identified with SEND and those who have barriers to their learning in a single subject can be fully immersed in the English curriculum with their peers through quality first teaching where resources are used to scaffold their learning. Some examples of resources used throughout the curriculum when applying and practising English skills are:
- Word mats
- Speed sounds charts
- Sound mats
- Colour overlays
- A rich range of vocabulary displayed
Some of the English interventions on offer at NJK are:
- Read, Write Inc one to one tutoring
- Precision teaching to support both spelling and reading
- Speaking and listening groups
- Speech and Language - When children are assessed by the speech and language therapist, a program is often given to the school. Our trained speech and language teaching assistant runs the individualised programs
