NJK Celebrate Victory in the Worcestershire Poetry Slam

The NJK Team has achieved a remarkable success, being crowned winners of the Worcestershire Poetry Slam 2026. This year’s competition invited pupils from Years 5, 6 and 7 across the county to write and perform original poems on the theme of ‘Play’.

Our Year 6 pupils responded with a powerful and thoughtful piece entitled ‘Behind the Mask’, exploring the importance of inclusion, belonging and ensuring everyone feels welcome to join in. They shared their performance with the whole school during Monday’s assembly, its message aligning perfectly with this year’s NCMHW theme.

Back in January, pupils took part in an in‑school poetry workshop where they developed performance skills, explored poetic structures and experimented with creative expression. Their commitment and creativity culminated in the Poetry Slam Final on Wednesday 11th March 2026.

The final, held at the Palace Theatre, provided a vibrant and supportive atmosphere. The evening began at 6:45pm, with pupils from across Worcestershire delivering thoughtful, imaginative and expressive performances. NJK’s team impressed the judges with their confident delivery, strong teamwork and sensitive interpretation of the theme.

Having also won the competition in 2025, this consecutive victory highlights the exceptional talent, dedication and confidence of NJK pupils. It is a fantastic reflection of the school’s commitment to nurturing creativity and celebrating the arts.
