Music

Music makes up an important part of our curriculum, with classes enjoying regular music lessons. Where appropriate, cross curricular links are established between music and other subjects to enhance and consolidate musical understanding and appreciation. We are transitioning to the model music curriculum, with class teachers developing exciting topics and lessons to inspire children’s musical learning alongside the national curriculum.

Our music curriculum steadily develops children’s musicianship by focussing on the key areas of singing, listening, composing and performing. Our music resources include a range of tuned and untuned instruments to be used individually and collaboratively, alongside plentiful opportunities to perform to peers and other classes within lessons.

Throughout the year, children at NJK have plentiful opportunities to experience live music as well as be part of performances themselves. These opportunities range from Christmas and Summer concerts, visits from musicians, trips to local concerts and large-scale music events such as Young Voices and The Big Sing.

The aim of the music curriculum at NJK is to inspire a lifelong appreciation of music and to encourage children’s musical creativity and confidence to participate in composition and performance, allowing children to reach their full potential and have a lot of fun!
