English - Setting Descriptions

Below are some sentences pulled from a few of the children's setting descriptions that showed their understanding of using extended noun phrases and prepositions.

In the aqua-marine sky, white clouds, as soft as fluffy cotton buds, were dotted around.

The dry, cracked road led to a village full of colourful houses made of wood and metal.

Washing hung over the lines as the hot breeze dried it.

With the children happily playing, the mums started hanging out their bright, rainbow-like clothes across each small colourful house.

The bright, large sun was beaming down onto the dusty road.

Sky

Two small children walked down a path making the dust rise up into the air like a cloud of ash.

Bella

An old lady couched down with her buckets ready to wash her laundry, as her granddaughter played.

    Erin

The road that was running through the village was dry, cracked and dusty; a victim of the heat.

Science - measuring friction

We have been learning all about forces in Autumn 2 science and today we investigated which surfaces create the most friction.  The children used newton meters to measure how much force it took to pull a shoe across different surfaces.

Space Posters

Maple class created posters all about the space knowledge that they have learnt in the first half term of the year in Science.  They presented their posters to Year 1, who will be learning about space later in the year through their unit on historical figures.  Well done Maple Class!

Ancient Greece - Now Press Play

Maple class really enjoyed starting off their history topic all about Ancient Greece by listening to a Now Press Play experience all about that time.

English - Percy Jackson Freeze Frames

In preparation for writing our diary entries, we acted out the events of Chapter 4 and freeze framed each one.  We then made an emotion chart to document how Percy was feeling throughout the chapter.  We now can't wait to get writing!

English - setting descriptions

In English, the children used their senses to write setting descriptions for Yancy Academy, Percy Jackson's school.  Mrs Kingdon then put their work into AI, which then created a picture using their descriptions.  Due to their wonderful vocabulary and attention to detail, the pictures turned out brilliantly! Well done Maple Class!
